Phagelab

Phagelab is a Chilean biotechnology company founded in 2010 and dedicated to the development of products based on bacteriophages for the livestock industry. In 2019 its European subsidiary was created in Bizkaia. The company has developed a platform for the search, development and manufacture of bacteriophage-based antibiotic substitutes for the control of pathogenic bacteria during the intensive rearing of food animals. Bacteriophages are small viral particles capable of recognizing and eliminating pathogenic bacteria, avoiding the productive losses caused by infections. In addition, its use is highly specific, which does not alter the normal bacterial flora of animals

Phagelab has two business lines:

Products: Bacteriophage-based formulations

Our first product, Milkeeper S, is a bacteriophage-based food additive to prevent infectious diarrhea caused by E. coli and Salmonella spp. in dairy calves. This product is marketed in various Latin American countries by Bayer Animal Health.

Currently, Phagelab is completing the development of a product to prevent infectious diarrhea caused by E. coli in pigs and a product to eliminate and reduce the presence of Salmonella spp. in broiler chicken farms.

Services: Deep Diagnosis

Phagelab has a service area for the identification, detection and characterization of microorganisms in intensive animal husbandry. We have detection and quantification of bacteria through qPCR, metagenome studies, characterization of microorganisms through Whole Genome Sequencing and Epidemiological and Bioinformatics Studies.
